New to Christianity? Our two pastors offer an introduction to the Gospel.
Translation of the video transcription:
Christians believe that the Gospel is the good news given by God to humanity. When humans were created by God, they were made in His image. However, due to human selfishness and self-centeredness, they fell into sin. The relationship between humans and God was damaged, as were relationships between people, and between humans and nature and the world. God did not want humans to be forever separated from Him in this fallen state. So, He gave us His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to restore our relationship with Him. Through Jesus, our relationships with one another and with the world are also restored. This is the Gospel given to us by God.

The Gospel is a translation of a Greek word that means good news. And the New Testament writers use that term to mean that through the life and death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, there is now liberation from the consequences of sin, for the damage of sin, the brokenness of sin, and that God’s people can be reconnected. This estrangement from God is now over. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15, “By this gospel, you are saved. For what I receive, I passed on to you as a first importance that Christ died for us. And so according to the Scripture that He was buried and that he was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter and then to the twelve. And after that, he appeared to over 500 of the brothers.” The Bible teaches us that those who believe this are saved. And it is truly Good News.
